John recently performed in France, singing in both French and English. Un succes fou!

Eartha Kitt did a reading of John's play, "Zazou". She played a retired singer from the Paris music-hall...who commits a murder! Eartha's dangerous quality was perfect for the role of Zazou; you really believed it when she plunged a bayonet into the neck of the man who was trying to blackmail her! Eartha sings one of Zazou's songs "Voice Full of Yes" in her cabaret act. A production of Zazou is planned by the Times Square Group, a new theater company.

Margaret Whiting
has sung many of John's songs and recorded three of them, "Hate Myself", "After the Holidays" and -on the Big Band Cavalcade album- "Nothing Like It In the World". They once did a concert together titled "Whiting & Meyer Sing Meyer & Whiting". Their relationship is profiled in her memoir, "It Might As Well Be Spring".

Years ago, John wrote a bunch of double-entendres for Julie Wilson, the Queen of the Racy Ballad. Julie's gone straight now, concentrating on Sondheim and Porter, and we hear no more lines like "I didn't fill out a form/They said 'Your form is filled out enough'"(!). Gone are the days of innocent scatology. But we remember April...and we smile.
